Originally from Sweden, Malin Svensson came to Los Angeles in 1989 with a master’s degree in Physical Education. A former nationally ranked runner with 28 years of experience in the fitness industry, Malin is an International Fitness Coach/Author/Speaker and president for Nordic Body, committed to inspire the 50+ population to live a fun, healthy and fulfilling life by providing 360-degree support from live retreats, private sessions, workshops, classes to online coaching. Whether she works out fitness gurus like Jane Fonda or people that have never worked out a day in their lives – her mission is the same: to strengthen the body and mind to age with confidence.
She has been featured as a walking and fitness expert on CBS Los Angeles and in LA Times, The NY Times, The Wall Street Journal and Fitness magazine. She brought Nordic Walking to North America in 2002 and is one of the leading authorities in Nordic Walking worldwide. Her passion for making a difference in people’s well being is further expressed by her health advocacy organization Adopt-A-Walk. The first marked 1-mile walking loop was installed in Santa Monica on June 29, 2019.
As a Personal Fitness Trainer, she’s been certified by NASM since 2000. In association with the UCLA Extension program, Malin taught her signature course entitled: Alternative Fitness, which fulfilled in part the graduating requirements for the Certificated Program in Fitness Instruction, of which she also was a Consultant. In 2019 she launched the Nordic Body Academy, empowering novice and experienced fitness professionals to fast track their fitness business for the 50+ populations by offering the Nordic Body Certificate Program.
As the first INWA (International Nordic Walking Association) Master Trainer in North America, she introduced Nordic Walking to America in 2002. For 12 years (2002-2014) she was one of the three INWA International Coaches in the world and served on the INWA Educational Committee. She has been invited to lead Nordic Walking seminars and events at fitness conventions including IDEA, Evolution Fitness Conference and ACSM. To date, she has conducted Nordic Walking seminars and presentations throughout North America, Europe and New Zealand and Japan.
“Outdoor Adventures – Nordic Walking” (Human Kinetics May 2009) is the title of her first published book. Malin’s second published book, of which she is a co-author, is called “Lifetime Outdoor Pursuits” (Human Kinetics July 2010). She is the author of the Nordic Walking Instructor Manual for North America, co-author of the INWA (International Nordic Walking Association) Instructor Manual and in both manuals, she created the breakdown of the Nordic Walking technique into 10 Steps.
